But with good reason... Been rather busy. That's putting it litely, actually. I'm doing this right before I start studying my ass off for music history. Second to last exam Thursday! Oh yay!!
So life has been crazy... Had amazing days, that are a blast, and I've had days that are straight from the pits of hell... The latter seems to be more frequent lately... Which is the suck. Friday, for instance, was a combination of both. Started OK, then sucked, then got amazing by the end of the day. Saturday was an example of an amazing day.
But anyways, we've had two crappy concerts and one decent one. The decent one seems forever ago. We also got to meet and work with Christian Tamburr (great vibes player) a couple weeks ago. Cool guy.
Also saw Trans-Siberian Orchestra for the second year in a row at the beginning of this month! Amazing, as always!
I now have Guitar Hero II... You know you wanna come over and play... Av. 207. Hehe.
I'm really sad and excited this week... sad, because I don't get to go home until NEXT week... and excited because I finally get to go home for a WEEK!! Yes! And I will also have a WII(!!!!!) when I get home! Yessssss!!!
This school stuff is brutal as all get out, though. Seriously. Didn't think it would be this bad, though. I'm just dyin'. Just sooo much stuff to do, that I can't figure out how I'll ever get better without dropping out of everything but class and practice. But I don't want to do that, because I'm actually enjoying having friends... Fresh experiences for me, you see.
So I think what I'm gonna do is when I graduate, take a year off, and practice, then apply for grad school... Better that way, I think.
I'm gonna shut up now, though, because I've wasted waaay too much time doing this... I wanna go home now. Right now. I just wanna pack my clothes, my instruments my computer and my Gamecube and drive home right now. I don't think I've ever been homesick before, but now I know what it feels like. And it sucks, by the way.
Alright, folks... 42!

I went to a liturgical church today. Pretty interesting.
The service itself was pretty boring and ritualistic, but the dude that gave the sermon actually did a pretty good job.
I found myself just wanting to jump up and shout "AMEN!" in the middle of service the whole morning. Just to see if they would have kicked me out.
On a lighter note, a lot of the things I "learned" from music history, I found ALL over the service. The entire liturgy is pretty much constructed like how it was in the Mass a thousand years ago. Though, I'd say it has closer ties to the Office, in all actuality. Everything from discant in the hymnals, to Psalm readings, responsorials and chants (not Gregorian by any stretch, though) were there.
Definitely not leaving my churches, but it was pretty interesting to see nonetheless.

You should all try this out. It's pretty difficult and quite a lot of fun. Good brain stimulation.
Don't forget this Thursday is the Jazz band in chapel! We're gonna blow the roof off!!

OK, so. Middle of the week... "FireFall" is this week. Kind of a lame name... To a certain extent.
But overall it's been pretty decent. Though I think classes should be cancelled at least these three days, because having the morning chapels, plus the afternoon/evening/night (hehe) revival services take up so much more time of our day, it's hard to get done what we have to. Particularly practicing *cough*. The message tonight was kinda funny, because he preached about the evils of secular music tonight (more or less anyways) and I find it kind of silly. Don't listen to crappy music about killing your mom with a spoon (I used it Dom!), but if you dig secular music, go for it. Ain't nothin' wrong with some Chili Peppers or Kelly Clarkson (which happened to be two examples used tonight). Anyways. I'll stop ranting for now.
I think I'm gonna go see Cool Hand Luke next week, which should be cool. They're coming like ten minutes away from my school. Maybe less then that. Plus it's freakin' $5 and you can't beat that, even if I've never heard of the other bands that are gonna be there. I wanna see CHL.
Umm... Lesse here. What is there to say? (Which is a fantastic album by Joe Pass, for the record. Everyone should own it if you're into Jazz Guitar at all). Go listen to some prog or jazz or fusion for me. Please? I'd like it. Then you could expand your mind about what real music is and that'd be cool you would be even cooler then you already are. If you already listen to that kind of music, good on ya, we should talk sometime.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Literally in fact. I love Jazz. So much.
This week has been quite good.
First couple days were kinda crappy, but after Tuesday night jam session, everything turned around. Like I said. Hooray for Jazz. Got my first music history exam next Tuesday... I'll probably NEED jam session that night. lol
Mmm... listening to Maynard play Birdland. Such a cool chart.
Wii preorders are soon!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!! Can't wait! Wii is going to be so amazing.
I think I'm going to try and finish reading The Long Halloween (hopefully), then do some music history work, hit P-Bread and then... who knows.
Time to get back on Netflix, too.
Don't forget, TSO November 3rd! Same month as Wii and Guitar Hero II!!! Ahhh!!!
OK, I'm good now.
Bye bye.

So the weekend isn't over yet, but I figured I'd post just for kicks.
Jazz band is going pretty well, I have to say. We're sounding decent. We read through an entire tune without stopping for the first time since I've been playing. Pretty amazing, if you ask me.
I'm in the middle of homework, so I figured I'd kill some time. Went to RTU last night. Fun time. Stayed up till about 3 AM playing guitar. Good stuff.
OK, I'm tired of blogging about nothing now. Check out my website (http://www.freewebs.com/mjavalanche). I've added a couple concert dates on there. I'm sure you'll want to check those out.
Also: if anyone is a killer drummer or bass player interested in attempting to play some Dream Theater (particularly Overture 1928 as that's the primary piece I want to learn and hopefully play for chapel one day, maybe) sign here! Love to put together a band and try it out. I'd really like to learn and perform all of Scenes from Memory, but that's going to take a long time. Plus vocals are needed at that point, and I don't want to worry about that right now. I'd also like to attempt some other things, but I have some other things to work out first.
And don't forget: TSO on November 3rd! If anyone else is interested let me know. I'll keep those of you who have expressed interest posted.

So music history pretty much sucks. Those who are in it with me, know this for a fact.
I'm about sick of PlainChant and classical music in general ('though there is stuff I like of later Classical [actually, 20th century] music).
I want Jazz history. That would be fantastic.

Go to my website!!! w00t!
Wiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!
I'm excited about Wii! It's gonna pwn all other consoles. In other news, I'm reading a lot of comics lately. Batman, especially. I love Batman. I'm going tomorrow to get the first couple issues of 52 and hopefully some G.I. Joe and the new Justice League. I'm also reading Lots of sci-fi books. Everything from Star Wars EU, to classics like Asimov. And Douglas Adams. Hitchhiker's Guide is amazing. I love it.
Been writing video game music for a non-existant video game. I'm just about done with the title theme. Unfortunatly, I can't play what I'm writing for the most part. Not too smart, but that's OK.
Class starts tomorrow. I'm actually excited. Myspace sucks, because no one talks to me on there.
Please, like go to my website and download some of my music. I'd like that. Hopefully I'll get some more up this semester. That'd be nice. You would like that wouldn't you? Hope so.
OK, bye, bye. Anyone on campus wanna play some Starcraft, Wolfenstein, or Medal of Honor, please say so. I want to play. Real bad.
Hello.
Yep. School starts next month. Stoked about that. More updates will occur then, for sure.
Bye.
